Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat (1844–1910), Tray (vide-poche), glazed stoneware, D. 15.7 cm, late 19th century, signed
Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat is among the most innovative ceramists of the late 19th century. Based in Bourg-la-Reine, he developed a distinctive artistic language through glazes of subtle and shifting hues.
This small tray, or vide-poche, exemplifies the refinement of his art: the reddish, brown, and bluish tones blend harmoniously, revealing the richness of the oxides and the mastery of the firing process. A piece that is both functional and elegant, it stands as a testament to the revival of ceramics during the Art Nouveau period.
